Wix is the easiest site to start and the hardest one to keep current

Wix is the better choice for a restaurant that needs a website to exist within a week and has nobody to build one, and a managed site is the better choice once the menu starts changing faster than anyone has time to edit it. The decision usually turns on two things: who does the weekly editing, and whether being unable to move the site off the platform later matters to you.

01

What Wix is genuinely good at

It removes every obstacle between a restaurant owner and a live website. Hosting is included across its plans, the editor is visual, the templates are attractive, and a determined owner can be live in a weekend without talking to anybody. For a new room opening in six weeks with no marketing budget, that is a real and honest answer, and we would rather a restaurant had a Wix site than no site.

02

The portability question, stated from Wix's own documentation

Wix states in its own help center that a Wix site is built with Wix technology and needs to be hosted and operated on Wix servers for it to work properly, while the content you build belongs to you. That is a clear and fair statement from them, and it is worth understanding before you invest three years of menus into it: the writing is yours to take, the site itself is not something you relocate. Our position is different in one specific way, which is the domain: yours is registered in your name and transferred free if you leave. The page code, to be equally honest, stays with us.

03

Where the weekly menu edit goes wrong

Wix does not stop you keeping a menu current. Time does. A tasting menu with nine courses and a pairing column is twenty minutes of careful editing every few weeks, on a screen, by somebody who has just finished a double. What actually happens is the menu gets published as a PDF or an image, because uploading a file takes thirty seconds, and from that moment no search engine can read a single dish on it. That is the most common reason a restaurant with a perfectly nice-looking site is invisible for its own food.

04

What we do instead, and what it costs you

Every dish on our menu pages is real text in a structure, set by us. You send the new courses in whatever form is convenient, including a photograph of the printed menu, and the whole seasonal swap counts as one revision rather than one per dish. It is live inside two to five working days. In exchange you give up the ability to log in and change a word at midnight, which is a genuine loss and the main reason a certain kind of owner should stay on Wix.

Side by side

The rows below are the ones that actually decide it for a chef-led kitchen. Where a cell describes Wix, it either reports something read on their own documentation or says plainly that we are not claiming it.

Choose them

When Wix is the better choice

There is a real restaurant for whom Wix is the correct decision, and we are not going to pretend there is not.

  • You are opening in six weeks with no budget and need something credible online immediately.
  • You genuinely want to edit your own site, at midnight, without asking anyone.
  • Your menu barely changes, so the weekly editing problem we solve is not a problem you have.
  • You want everything, including the online store and the booking tool, inside one subscription you control.
  • You are testing whether a concept works at all and do not want a monthly service commitment yet.

Choose us

When the managed site is the better choice

Everything here comes back to the same question: what happens the fourth time the menu changes.

  • The menu on your current site is a PDF or an image, and you know it should not be.
  • The site has drifted a season or two behind the kitchen and nobody has time to catch it up.
  • You want the menu findable in search, which means it has to be text somebody keeps current.
  • You want weekly articles, a speed guarantee and hosting from one accountable party.
  • You would rather send a message than open an editor.

Together

Moving from Wix without a gap in service

The move is less disruptive than most owners expect, because the part that matters, the writing, is yours to bring.

  1. 01Your existing Wix site stays live and untouched until the new one is signed off. There is no dark window.
  2. 02We take your menu, story, photography and any worthwhile pages as the starting material for the rebuild.
  3. 03Existing page addresses are mapped to new equivalents with redirects, so links in directories and press coverage keep working.
  4. 04If your domain is registered through Wix we point it at the new site. If you want a new one, your plan includes it registered in your name.

In their words

What restaurant teams tell us

  • The idea that visitors could sort themselves before writing seemed obvious only in hindsight. The sender picks the route, which means the best-informed person does the sorting. Returning customers no longer repeat the whole form to ask one question.

  • Everyone talks about the new design; I cared more about where the old seasonal dining menus links would land. We reviewed the full redirect map before launch and checked the destinations ourselves. Not one ‘your link is broken’ message arrived after launch.

  • They pushed us to be precise about seasonal dining menus, which felt slow at first and right at the end. The boundaries are drawn clearly: what the site settles, and what our people still decide. Correcting the site's accidental promises is no longer part of our calls.

Questions about Wix

Can we move our Wix site to you as it is?

Not as a file. Wix states that a Wix site needs to be hosted on Wix servers, so what moves is the content rather than the site. Your menu, story, images and worthwhile pages become the starting material for a rebuild.

Do we own what we wrote on Wix?

Yes. Wix states in its own documentation that the content you build belongs to you. It is the site infrastructure that stays on their platform.

Will our site go down during the switch?

No. Your existing site stays live until you have signed off on the new one, and the domain is only pointed across at the moment you are satisfied.

Is Wix slow?

Speed on any builder depends on the template and how many apps get added. Rather than characterise their performance, we will state ours: 90+ PageSpeed on mobile and desktop, guaranteed, and our responsibility to hold.

Why does a PDF menu matter so much?

Because search engines cannot read text locked inside a file or an image, and a phone cannot display one comfortably at the table. A restaurant with a PDF menu is invisible for searches about its own food.

What if we want to edit something ourselves?

You cannot, and that is the honest trade-off. Nobody at the restaurant logs in to the site. You send the change and we make it inside 2 to 5 working days. For some owners that is the whole appeal and for others it is a deal breaker.

Is your service more expensive than a Wix plan?

They are different purchases. One is software plus your time. Ours is a build, hosting, a domain, weekly articles and a team doing the work. Every figure is published on our pricing page.

Can we keep our Wix domain?

Yes. We point it at the new site. Alternatively your plan includes a new domain registered in your name, and you keep it if you ever cancel.

What happens to our Wix booking tool?

Whatever reservation platform you use keeps working. We route enquiries and point reservation buttons at the system you already run rather than asking you to change it.
