GoDaddy Website Builder gets a restaurant online. It does not keep it current.
GoDaddy Website Builder is the better choice for a restaurant that needs any credible web presence today at the lowest possible cost, and a managed site is the better choice once the menu, the search visibility and the weekly upkeep start to matter more than the speed of getting live. Both things can be true at different stages of the same restaurant life.
01
What we can and cannot tell you about their product
We hold ourselves to a rule on these pages: a fact about somebody else product only gets published if we read it on their own official page and recorded the date. GoDaddy's own site blocked our checks on the date shown at the foot of this page, so this page deliberately contains no claims about their current features, plans or prices. Everything below is either about our offer or about the general shape of a self-serve website builder, and you should read their own site for their current specification rather than taking a secondhand summary from a competitor.
02
The general shape of the decision
Self-serve builders of this kind are optimized for one thing, which is removing every obstacle between deciding to have a website and having one. That is a real service and it is why so many independent restaurants start there. The cost is deferred rather than avoided: the site is only ever as current as the last time somebody opened the editor, the menu is usually uploaded as a file because that is faster than typing sixty dishes, and nothing is publishing new content that would earn search visibility over time.
03
What a restaurant typically outgrows first
In our experience it is the menu, and it happens fast. The first seasonal change goes in properly. The second goes in as a PDF because service was busy. By the fourth, the site says autumn in February. Once that has happened, the site has stopped being a marketing asset and become a liability: a guest who checks it and finds a menu you no longer serve trusts the next thing they read on it less. The second thing outgrown is usually the absence of anything beyond the homepage for a search engine to find.
04
What we sell instead, in plain terms
A custom-coded site with the menu as structured, searchable text, a 90+ PageSpeed guarantee on mobile and desktop, managed hosting with SSL and unmetered bandwidth, a domain registered in your name, two or three researched articles published every week, five revisions a month with a two to five working day turnaround, and a team who make the changes so nobody at the restaurant has to. One monthly fee, with the one-time build fee invoiced only after the site is live and you are happy with it.
Side by side
The rows below are the ones that actually decide it for a chef-led kitchen. Where a cell describes GoDaddy Website Builder, it either reports something read on their own documentation or says plainly that we are not claiming it.
| What matters | GoDaddy Website Builder | MenuWebStudio |
|---|---|---|
| Time to live | Fast. That is the product design goal of a self-serve builder | 7 days on The Folio, counted from the onboarding call |
| Who builds it | You | The studio, around the shape of your actual menu |
| Who updates it | You, whenever you find the time | The studio, inside 2 to 5 working days |
| Menu in practice | Commonly a PDF or an image, because it is quicker | Structured text, every dish readable by search engines |
| Page speed | Not claimed here. Check their own specification | 90+ PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop |
| Content published for you | None. Anything published is written by you | 2 or 3 researched articles a week |
| Structured data | Not claimed here. Check their own specification | Matched to page type, set at launch, maintained |
| Policy pages | Not claimed here. Check their own specification | Privacy, terms, cookies and an accessibility statement set up with your site |
| Cost model | Not quoted here, because we could not verify current pricing | One monthly fee, published in full, build fee invoiced after launch |
| Ownership | Check their own terms | Domain in your name, content yours, domain transferred free if you leave |
GoDaddy's own pages blocked automated checks on the date shown at the foot of this page, so this page makes no claims at all about their current features, plans or prices. Everything stated about a self-serve builder here is general, and everything specific is about our own offer. Check their official site for their current specification.
Choose them
When a self-serve builder is the better choice
There is nothing shameful about starting here, and for some restaurants it is genuinely the right call this year.
- You are pre-opening, cash is tight, and the only requirement is that a search for your name finds something real.
- You are running a pop-up or a short residency that will not exist in nine months.
- Your domain, email and site are already bundled in one place and consolidating matters more to you than the site quality.
- You want to prove the concept works before committing to any monthly service.
- Somebody in the family enjoys doing it and will actually keep doing it.
Choose us
When the managed site is the better choice
The signal is almost always the same one: the site has stopped telling the truth about the menu.
- The menu on your site is out of date and has been for more than one season.
- You are invisible in search for your own cuisine and neighborhood because there is nothing on the site to find.
- You want the menu as text rather than a downloadable file.
- You want somebody accountable for speed, hosting, the domain and the weekly change.
- You want new content published every week without writing it.
Together
Moving across, and keeping your domain where it is
A move from a self-serve builder is usually the simplest migration we do, because there is rarely much to carry.
- 01Your domain can stay registered wherever it is. We point it at the new site rather than asking you to transfer it.
- 02If you would rather start fresh, your plan includes a domain registered in your name.
- 03Your existing menu, hours, photography and any story copy become the starting material for the rebuild.
- 04Any page addresses that currently exist are mapped to new equivalents with redirects.
In their words
What restaurant teams tell us
The idea that visitors could sort themselves before writing seemed obvious only in hindsight. The sender picks the route, which means the best-informed person does the sorting. Returning customers no longer repeat the whole form to ask one question.
Felix HenshawFront of house supervisor, Modern British restaurantEveryone talks about the new design; I cared more about where the old seasonal dining menus links would land. We reviewed the full redirect map before launch and checked the destinations ourselves. Not one ‘your link is broken’ message arrived after launch.
Dorian PrescottTable bookings administrator, Mexican cantina restaurantThey pushed us to be precise about seasonal dining menus, which felt slow at first and right at the end. The boundaries are drawn clearly: what the site settles, and what our people still decide. Correcting the site's accidental promises is no longer part of our calls.

Questions about GoDaddy Website Builder
Why does this page not list their features or prices?
Because we could not read their official pages on the date shown at the foot of this page, and we do not publish claims about another company product from memory or from secondhand summaries. Read their own site for their current specification.
Is a cheap builder site bad for a restaurant?
It is better than no site. It becomes a problem when it goes out of date, because a guest who finds a menu you no longer serve trusts everything else on the page less.
Can we keep our domain if it is registered with them?
Yes. We point it at the new site and you can leave the registration exactly where it is. Nothing about your email or your billing there needs to change.
What do we actually gain by moving?
A menu as searchable text, a 90+ PageSpeed guarantee, managed hosting, a weekly publishing schedule and a team who make the changes so nobody at the restaurant has to open an editor.
How long does the move take?
7 days on The Folio, 10 on The Broadside and 15 on The Standing Order, counted from the onboarding call rather than from purchase.
Will our site go offline during the change?
No. The existing site stays live until you have signed off on the new one, and the domain is pointed across only at that moment.
Is there a contract?
It is a monthly plan. Cancellation is by email, reaching us at least 2 business days before the next invoice date during business hours. The full terms are on the pricing page.
What if we cannot afford a monthly fee yet?
Then stay where you are for now. We would rather tell you that than sell you something that squeezes the kitchen. The offer will still be here when the room is busier.
Do you charge a build fee upfront?
No. The one-time build fee is invoiced only after your site is live and you are satisfied with it, which is also why it is not refundable afterwards.
